Simple Solutions to Saving the World

I wanted to create place to publicly document the steps I’m taking to upgrade my own lifestyle. This is a place where I’ll try my best to live as an example for others, while also teaching and inspiring anyone else who would like to make a change. Especially anyone who has trouble knowing where to…

I’m doing it. I’m launching a blog! Welcome.

This blog is born of my desire to do something for myself, while also (hopefully) impacting my community, and the planet that we live on as well. I like writing. I actually love writing. I promise I’m not trying to flex! I don’t think I’m incredibly articulate, and my vocabulary isn’t going to impress any academics. I just love the process of putting my internal discourse into words on a page. I love the way that writing makes me feel like I’m allowing people to read my mind.

Writing is just how I like to express myself. I’ve never been particularly eloquent in real life. In real life, I struggle to find the words I’m looking for. In real life I often feel that my words and manner of speaking misrepresents who I am. When I’m writing, I feel like me. The real me.

So, I wanted a place to write, and at first I thought, “I should just create a personal blog.” The truth is, I’m afraid of getting too personal and over exposing myself.

I do want to experiment with pushing beyond my comfort zone, and expressing myself in a way that is radically vulnerable, but I figured that this blog, Hippie Hermana, could be my training wheels. What I’m saying is, perhaps I’ll build toward that.

I knew that I wanted to write, and in the past I’ve been too shy to do it in any sort of public way. However, after I lost my dad at the beginning of this year, I’ve felt more inspired to do more in service of my community. I figured that by creating Hippie Hermana I could kill two birds with one stone, by giving myself a place to serve both myself, and the world that I live in.

Here, I can write until my heart’s content, while also chronicling my own attempt to “do my part” to improve the planet.

Will it be perfect? Of course not. But will it be accessible and practical for anyone and everyone to try? Most definitely. That’s my goal. To hold myself to a higher standard of living, and to hopefully demonstrate how small changes can add up, and make a larger impact on the world around us.

My mission with this blog is to create a space to discuss and explore simple personal, social, and environmental lifestyle upgrades which are accessible to everyone.

I wanted to create place to publicly document the steps I’m taking to upgrade my own lifestyle. This is a place where I’ll try my best to live as an example for others, while also teaching and inspiring anyone else who would like to make a change. Especially anyone who has trouble knowing where to start.

I know what it’s like to see self improvement and activism as a monumental task. People love to say “go vegan” or aim to produce “zero waste” as if it’s always some simple, straightforward thing. I would like to use this blog to discuss and demonstrate how to make changes in smaller steps, and without having to alter your entire life or spend a ton of money.

The topics and themes on this blog won’t just be about environmentalism and improving our planet, but also many other ways that we can work to make life better for ourselves and others. As much as I want to live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, I also want to be a kinder person, a more socially aware and active person. I want this blog to be about improvement in all aspects of life. I would like to document here many different ways to make the world a better place, and I would eventually like to include many other points of view as well.

I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. I’m challenging myself to make improvements within my own life, and likewise, I’d like to challenge you as well. If you’re reading this, my challenge to you is this: let yourself be inspired. Give yourself the chance to do just a little bit more than you normally would. And remember, if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off, and try again. Every little effort counts.

If you think you might like to join the hippie fam, and submit a post on any topic that you think might fit here, please reach out! I’ll be creating posts regularly, but I would also love to share other perspectives and points of view.
